Description

A traditional Italian lasagna layered with rich meat sauce, creamy béchamel, and mozzarella cheese.


Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups béchamel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
  4. Add ground beef and sausage; cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.
  7. In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, then a layer of noodles, followed by ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and béchamel. Repeat layers.
  8. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, omit the meat and add more vegetables like spinach and zucchini.
