Description

Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken is a simple recipe with minimal ingredients and rich flavors. The chicken is tender and melts in your mouth, making it perfect for busy days.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups barbecue sauce (your favorite such as Sweet Baby Ray’s, Trader Joe’s, mild, spicy, garlicky, etc.)
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (or to taste, about 45 cloves, finely minced)
  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • Green onions (sliced into thin rounds; optional for garnishing)
  • Sesame seeds (optional for garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Spray the insert of your 6-quart or 7-quart slow cooker with cooking spray, although it’s optional.
  2. Add the barbecue sauce, honey, and garlic, and stir to combine.
  3. Remove approximately 1/2 cup of the sauce and place it in the refrigerator for later use.
  4. Add the chicken and toss to coat it evenly in the sauce.
  5. Arrange the chicken in an even flat layer.
  6. Cover and slow cook on HIGH for about 2 ½ to 3 hours, or on LOW for about 5 to 6 hours, until the internal temperature is 165F.
  7. If desired, shred the chicken with two forks after cooking and return it to the slow cooker.
  8. Add the reserved 1/2 cup sauce mixture and toss the chicken to ensure it is well-coated.
  9. Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, salt and pepper, or red pepper flakes if desired.
  10. Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, with veggies, in enchiladas, tortillas, or sliders.
