Description
Shrimp and Sausage Dirty Rice is a flavorful and hearty dish that combines shrimp, smoked sausage, and rice cooked in chicken broth.

- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
- 2 cups long-grain white rice
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and celery. Sauté until softened, approximately 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the long-grain rice to the pot, stirring to coat it in the oil and mix with the vegetables.
- Gradually add the chicken broth, stirring well.
- Add the Cajun seasoning, thyme, paprika, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
- Increase heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
- Gently fold in the shrimp, cover, and cook for another 5 minutes or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
- Carefully remove the bay leaf before serving.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and parsley, if desired.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated.
- Adjust the spice level by adding more or less Cajun seasoning.
