- 1 cup almond flour
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 large egg whites
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Red food coloring
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, for buttercream
- 1 cup powdered sugar, for buttercream
- 2 tbsp milk, for buttercream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract, for buttercream
Instructions
- Sift almond flour and powdered sugar into a bowl and set aside.
- Whip egg whites with cream of tartar until foamy. Gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the meringue until batter flows like lava. Divide and color half red.
- Pipe circles onto a silicone mat and tap tray to release air bubbles. Rest for 30–45 minutes.
- Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 15 minutes and cool completely before removing.
- Beat butter until smooth and add sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the buttercream. Pipe and assemble macarons.
