- 6 cups of stale French bread, cubed
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup raisins (optional)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup heavy cream (for serving, optional)
- Caramel sauce (for drizzling, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place the cubed stale French bread in a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread and gently mix until all the bread is soaked.
- If desired, fold in the raisins for added sweetness and texture.
- Pour the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the mixture.
