Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Ground Beef (Use lean ground beef to reduce grease.)
- 2 cups Marinara Sauce (Homemade tomato sauce can be used for a fresher taste.)
- 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning (Fresh herbs (basil, oregano) can be used for added freshness.)
- to taste Salt
- to taste Pepper
- 15 ounces Ricotta Cheese (Cottage cheese can replace ricotta, though the texture will differ.)
- 1 large Egg
- 1 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (Freshly grated yields better flavor than pre-grated.)
- 12 ounces Lasagna Noodles (No-boil noodles can also be a convenient alternative.)
- 3 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (Melts beautifully and enhances overall creaminess.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat, then stir in the marinara sauce. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, the egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- In a 9×13 inch baking dish, start layering with meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, shredded mozzarella, and more meat sauce. Repeat and finish with remaining noodles and meat sauce, topped with grated Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
