Description

Learn how to make the ultimate Mexican restaurant cheese dip with simple ingredients and customizable heat. Perfect for parties and casual gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (16 oz) Velveeta cheese (or other processed cheese, such as Monterey Jack or cheddar)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for extra flavor and texture)
  • 1 cup milk (whole milk works best for creaminess)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (adds richness to the dip)
  • 12 tablespoons diced jalapeños (for heat, adjust based on your preference)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for flavor)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (optional, for extra depth)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Diced tomatoes (optional, for a fresher, chunkier dip)
  • Ground beef (optional, for a heartier dip)
  • Chopped cilantro (optional, for garnish)
  • Lime juice (optional, to add a burst of freshness)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, cut the Velveeta cheese into small cubes to help it melt more evenly. Place the cubes into the saucepan and heat them over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the cheese is completely melted and smooth.
  2. Once the cheese is melted, add the milk and butter to the saucepan. Stir constantly to help the butter melt and to create a smooth, creamy consistency. You can adjust the amount of milk depending on how thick or thin you want the dip to be.
  3. Add the diced jalapeños, garlic powder, and onion powder to the cheese mixture. Stir well to incorporate. Taste the dip and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted into the dip.
  5. Remove from heat, pour into a serving bowl, and garnish with your favorite toppings. Serve warm with tortilla chips, nachos, or fresh vegetables.
