Description

Transform ordinary onions into an irresistibly crunchy topping using an air fryer, perfect for salads, burgers, and casseroles.


Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice onions into thin rings (1/8-inch thick).
  2. Soak sliced onions in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Remove onions from buttermilk, shake off excess, and toss in flour mixture to coat.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
  6. Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray and place coated onions in a single layer, working in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from air fryer and cool slightly before serving or storing.

Notes

For extra crispiness, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of cornstarch to the flour mixture. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer for even cooking.
