Instructions
- Sift together the powdered sugar and almond flour into a bowl.
- In a clean bowl, whisk the egg whites until frothy, gradually adding granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the sifted dry ingredients into the whipped egg whites until the batter flows like lava.
- Pipe heart shapes onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
- Allow macarons to rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake for 18-20 minutes.
- Beat the softened butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Adjust with cream or milk.
- Pipe buttercream onto the flat side of one shell and top with another shell.
- Refrigerate the assembled macarons for at least 24 hours before serving.
