Description
Create spooky and delicious Ghostly Peanut Butter Balls with a creamy peanut butter center and a white chocolate ghost coating, perfect for Halloween parties.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ cups creamy peanut butter
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch fine salt
- 3½ to 4 cups powdered sugar, as needed
- 1½ to 2 cups crisp rice cereal or cornflakes (optional for crunch)
- 12 to 16 oz white chocolate (melting wafers or chips)
- candy eyes, as needed
Instructions
- Combine peanut butter, softened butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
- Gradually beat in powdered sugar in two additions until a cohesive, rollable dough forms.
- If using, fold in crisp rice cereal or cornflakes.
- Scoop 1-tablespoon portions of the dough and roll them into balls or ghost mounds.
- Place the shaped dough on a parchment-lined tray and chill in the refrigerator for 30–60 minutes until firm.
- Gently melt the white chocolate using short microwave bursts or a double boiler until smooth and fluid.
- Spoon or dip each chilled dough ball into the melted white chocolate, ensuring full coverage and allowing excess chocolate to drip off the edges to create a ghost-like shape.
- While the chocolate is still tacky, press candy eyes onto each ghost to create a face.
- Return the Ghostly Peanut Butter Balls to the parchment-lined tray and chill until the chocolate coating is completely set.
- Serve slightly cool for the best texture.
Notes
- If the dough crumbles, knead it briefly or add 1–2 teaspoons of peanut butter. If the dough is too soft, add more powdered sugar or chill it for a longer period before rolling.
- For classic peanut butter balls, swap the white chocolate for milk or dark chocolate.
- To make buckeye-style treats, dip the balls about three-quarters of the way, leaving a circle of peanut butter exposed on top.
- Store finished candies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several days.
- For make-ahead ease, freeze the Ghostly Peanut Butter Balls and let them rest at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
