Description

French Toast Bread Pudding is a delicious and comforting dish made from day-old bread soaked in a creamy custard and baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of day-old bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Maple syrup, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cut the day-old bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, gently stirring to ensure all pieces are coated. If using, fold in raisins or chocolate chips.
  5. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10-15 minutes, letting the bread absorb the custard.
  6. Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
  9. For extra flair, dust the top with powdered sugar just before serving.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for the best texture.
  • You can substitute raisins with chocolate chips if desired.
  • Serve with maple syrup for added sweetness.
