Ingredients

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
  • Ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Place the cubed bread in a large bowl. If using fresh bread, let it sit out for a few hours to stale slightly.
  3. Sprinkle the raisins over the cubed bread, mixing gently to distribute them evenly.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and raisins. Gently fold the mixture until all the bread is soaked. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb.
  6. Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
