Ingredients
Scale
- For the Chai Spice Mix:
- 1 cup coconut sugar
- 1/4 cup ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- For the Chai Latte:
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 black tea bag (or 1 teaspoon black tea leaves)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Chai Spice Mix
- For the Chai-Spiced Whipped Cream:
- 1 cup chilled heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons Chai Spice Mix
- Maple syrup to taste
Instructions
- Make the Chai Spice Mix: Combine coconut sugar, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper in a bowl. Whisk until fully combined. Store in an airtight container.
- Heat milk and water: In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of whole milk and 1 cup of water to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Steep the tea: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the black tea bag (or tea leaves) and 1 1/2 tablespoons of the chai spice mix. Let it steep for 5 minutes.
- Strain and pour: If you used loose leaf tea, pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into your mug. If you used a tea bag, simply remove and discard it. Pour the steeped tea blend into your favorite festive mug.
- Prepare whipped cream: While the tea is steeping, make the chai-spiced whipped cream. In a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, combine 1 cup of chilled heavy cream with 2 tablespoons of the prepared chai spice mix and maple syrup to taste. Beat on medium speed until soft peaks form.
- Assemble: Top each latte with a generous scoop of the chai-spiced whipped cream and finish with a light dusting of cinnamon for extra flair.
Notes
- Use fresh, aromatic spices for the best chai flavor.
- Try oat or almond milk for a dairy-free version.
- Watch the milk carefully to avoid boiling over.
- Store extra chai spice mix in a sealed jar for up to 3 months.
- Add a splash of vanilla extract or crushed candy cane for a fun twist.
