- 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Thinly slice them using a sharp knife or mandoline.
- Thinly slice the onion and set it aside.
- Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the greased baking dish. Top with half of the sliced onions and half of the shredded cheese.
- Sprinkle half of the garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika over the layers.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cheese.
- In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and milk. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes.
- Dot the top with small pieces of unsalted butter to enhance flavor.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes.
- Before serving, sprinkle with fresh parsley for an added touch of color and flavor.
