Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Thinly slice them using a sharp knife or mandoline.
  3. Thinly slice the onion and set it aside.
  4. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the greased baking dish. Top with half of the sliced onions and half of the shredded cheese.
  5. Sprinkle half of the garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika over the layers.
  6. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cheese.
  7. In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and milk. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes.
  8. Dot the top with small pieces of unsalted butter to enhance flavor.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes.
  12. Before serving, sprinkle with fresh parsley for an added touch of color and flavor.
