- 3 large egg whites
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring (optional)
- Chocolate drizzle (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean bowl, whisk egg whites on medium speed until foamy, about 2 minutes.
- Add cream of tartar and whisk until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, whisking until stiff, glossy peaks form, about 8-10 minutes total.
- Gently fold in vanilla extract and food coloring (if using).
- Transfer the meringue to a piping bag and pipe tree shapes on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 90 minutes, being careful not to open the oven door.
- Turn off the oven and leave the door slightly open for 30 minutes to cool before removing.
Notes
Store meringues in an airtight container to prevent moisture. These can be made a week in advance.
